The installation “The Current” showcased field research by artists, scientists, and activists that emerged from the HKW project “Mississippi. An Anthropocene River” and developed site-specific approaches to the global transformations of the Anthropocene along the river. The Mississippi serves as an exemplar of the intertwining of Earth’s history and human settlement history, as well as of the geosphere, biosphere, and technosphere. In the face of old and new social and ecological crises, the installation explores spaces for solidarity-based action and dialogic practices. On display are methodological experiments and artistic proposals for a polyphonic practice of working and living in the Anthropocene.
