Festival OSTEN, Bitterfeld-Wolfen / Grassi Museum of Ethnology in Leipzig

The Kulturpalast in Bitterfeld served as the starting point for the artistic exploration undertaken by the OSTEN festival in 2022. As a contribution from the ‘Cultures of Curating’ degree programme, we examined the Kulturpalast as a social space and meeting place. To highlight the loss caused by the building’s closure, we moved the surviving furniture from the former refreshment room in the building’s basement – which was due to be filled in as part of the renovation planned at the time – out to the festival centre and marked the missing parts of the 1990s-era furniture. In doing so, we created a new social meeting place for the duration of the festival. On several evenings, we also hosted ‘Letzte Runde’, a relaxed evening with beer and conversation.
