Festival OSTEN, Bitterfeld-Wolfen

2026

The landscape in Bitterfeld-Wolfen is shaped by open-pit lignite mining and the chemical industry. Since 2012, artist and photographer Franziska Klose has repeatedly explored this (post)industrial landscape. In 2015, her artist’s book “Bitterfeld“ was published. This book served as a guide for a bike tour that took us on an exploration of the Bitterfeld area, leading us past former fields, clay pits, and industrial and open-pit mining sites. Through this experience, we came to understand the landscape as something in a state of constant change. After all: “What we see today will also disappear.”

The event took place as part of Saxony-Anhalt’s Industrial Heritage Day.
