Festival OSTEN, Bitter­feld-Wolfen / Grassi Museum of Ethno­logy in Leipzig

The Kultur­pa­last in Bitter­feld served as the starting point for the artistic explo­ra­tion under­taken by the OSTEN festival in 2022. As a contri­bu­tion from the ‘Cultures of Curating’ degree programme, we examined the Kultur­pa­last as a social space and meeting place. To highlight the loss caused by the building’s closure, we moved the survi­ving furni­ture from the former refresh­ment room in the building’s basement – which was due to be filled in as part of the renova­tion planned at the time – out to the festival centre and marked the missing parts of the 1990s-era furni­ture. In doing so, we created a new social meeting place for the duration of the festival. On several evenings, we also hosted ‘Letzte Runde’, a relaxed evening with beer and conver­sa­tion.
